Superbowl Beers

It’s funny, I really didn’t think I was going to have an idea to post ready for today.  I kind of know what I want to do on Thursday or Friday, but I was sort of at a loss for what I wanted to do today. But inspiration comes from funny places sometimes, and I now have a topic.

Inspiration this time came from my consistent check of the weird stories yahoo leaves up on their front page.  This one wasn’t titled for the Superbowl, but it was instead geared toward the best beer to get for your Superbowl party based on a beer tasting they did.  This taste test was done by consumer reports and it definitely works for a large part of the country.  Evidently they tasted all of the beers from the major big beer brewers, along with a few store brands from Trader Joe’s and Walgreens, to see which of them was the best tasting of all the beers.  First of all, I had no idea Walgreens had a store brand beer.  Has anyone ever had this?  Secondly, I am actually curious what I would think the best of all the popular beers would be.  Perhaps a tasting for the future.  Ultimately Coors Regular won the competition with the ones from Trader Joe’s, Walgreens, and Miller High Life rounding it out.  The more I write about this, the more I want to do this tasting for the heck of it.

I’m sure all of the major beer companies will have a field day during the Superbowl.  Between the parties and commercials, I’m expecting everyone will come in contact with them in some way.  However, I’m very hopeful there will be some of us who definitely hold it down for the craft beer market.  I’m really not sure what I’ll be having at this moment.  I will be at a party, so some of what I consume may be left up to others.  However, I’ll most likely bring something to the party, so I’ll have to see what I think fits best with the last football of the season.

Any thoughts on the best beer to buy for the Superbowl?  I’m thinking maybe something from NY to show who I’m supporting to win the entire event.

  1. Sixpoint – righteous ale.

  2. Something from Southern Tier (other than Old Man Winter and Phin and Matt’s).

And I like that Consumer Reports found that Corona tastes awful and is relatively expensive. Well…ya don’t say.

  3. Walgreens brand??? I’m running out the doo…
